July Newsletter from Akasha Clothing & Fit Happens

July 20, 2008

Our summer weather has finally arrived, and I'm trying to
balance gardening with sewing. Always a struggle to decide
whether to stay indoors in the cool and add to the
wardrobe, or bask in the sunshine and play in the dirt!

Classes

Don't forget that Drop In Fit is on Monday, July 21 from
6:30 to 9:00 pm. If you've taken some fitting classes
already but need some help with altering a pattern or
fitting the tissue, this is the class for you.

The 3 Hour Skirt is coming up on August 11. It is a quick
addition to the wardrobe, and a great place to start
learning about how to fit and alter a pattern. New photos
of sample skirts will be available on the website by the
end of the day.

The Casual Jacket weekend workshop is planned for August
15, 16, and 17. Although we hate to think about cooler
weather, it will be here before we know it, and a casual
jacket is the perfect topper to pull that fall wardrobe
together. As one student told me after making her jacket
"it sure came in handy on Friday when I had to go to lunch
with a client - it went perfectly with my jeans".

Pant Fitting is scheduled for September 19, 20 and 21.
It's starting to fill, so call to reserve your spot now.

Buttons

More buttons have arrived. The most recent additions are
laser cut wood ones from Australia. Three different sizes
that are perfect for coats, as well as a number of novelty
buttons in the shapes of trees and tools. Check out the
website for photos.

Upcoming Shows

I've registered to have a booth in the Calgary Creative
Stitches show on September 26 and 27. The Edmonton
Creative Stitches show has been moved to autumn, so I've
registered to have a booth in it as well on October 3 and
4. While I'm teaching some classes, I'll need some help
back at the booth. If you're interested, let me know.
You'll get a free pass into the show, as well as
compensation for your time.

Coming Soon

New patterns - I'm working on a couple of new patterns
which I hope to launch at the Calgary Creative Stitches
show at the end of September.

Updates and downloads - The instructions for all of the
patterns are being rewritten so that they are more
descriptive, include fitting tips, and are easily
understood by everyone, not just experienced seamsters.
I'm planning to have these available for download from the
website for those of you that have a pattern already but
would like to have an updated version of the instructions.

Happy Sewing,
Cindy
