June Newsletter from Akasha Clothing & Fit Happens

June 20, 2008

Welcome to the first Akasha Clothing newsletter! My intent
is to keep it short & sweet….but update you on what is new
and upcoming.

DETAILS....DETAILS.....DETAILS

We’ll get the administrative details out of the way first.
You’re receiving this email because you indicated your
interest at a trade show or at one of the Fit Happens
classes that I’ve taught, or because I found your name on
some of the files that I received when I purchased Akasha
Clothing. If you wish to receive the monthly newsletter, I
recommend that you go to the Akasha Clothing website
(www.akashaclothing.com/newsletters.html) and subscribe to
the newsletter. As a subscriber, you’ll get a notification
email and be able to read the entire newsletter by clicking
on the link. I will periodically send an email directly to
people, but the subscription service on the website is much
more efficient, and lets you manage it yourself....and
isn't as susceptible to me making mistakes about who to
send an email to and who didn't want one.

WHAT'S NEW AT AKASHA?

Fabrics

I am just back from a trip to New York City, and managed to
pick up a few fabrics while I was there. So I have some
great wool tweeds that will make beautiful fall jackets,
some chiffons that will make cool and floaty summer skirts
(or tunics), and some crisp navy pinstripe for pants or a
jacket (or both!).

Buttons

The Spring Quilt Market last month was my first….and wow!
Talk about a lot of sewing and quilting enthusiasts in one
place, and vendors and suppliers as far as the eye can see!
I have received some of the buttons that I ordered and am
still trying to get some decent photos of them to post to
the website. But I now have some banana bark buttons, a
variety of large ceramic buttons that would be nice on a
coat, and some Tagua Nut buttons in Gypsy Red, Bluebell and
Ancient Taupe. I’m still awaiting the delivery of some
wood buttons from Australia, and a variety of glass and
colored buttons from Italy.

CLASSES

The class schedule is updated to the end of the year, with
more classes being added. Many of you have indicated that
you need help with fitting, so I’ve got a variety of
classes that will focus on helping you fit a garment and
finish it over the course of a few evenings, or over a
weekend. The on-line registration is coming….but for now,
just give me a call or drop and email and I’ll get you
registered.

Perfect Fit Blouse

3 evenings and you’ve got a blouse that fits you well.
Your choice of fabric – casual, fancy, crisp cotton or
whatever you like! The pattern has lots of room for
variations in length and sleeve styles. June 30, July 7
and 14.

Drop-In Fit

for those of you that have taken some fitting classes but
need some additional help with the alterations or making
sure that the pattern fits. The first Monday of every
month. Bring your fitting tools and prepared pattern.
Full supply list is on the website.

Coat Club

you’ve got that Akasha pattern stashed in the closet –
maybe even with the fabric….and have never gotten around to
sewing it up. Join the club! We’ll meet once a month to
work on the coats, I’ll help with fitting and construction
techniques….and you’ll be the first to see the new patterns
before they’re released!

Summer Dress

spend a weekend in July and sew up a dress that you’ll wear
all summer long. Dresses are one of the hot fashion trends
this year. Your choice of pattern, I’ll help you fit and
alter the pattern, assist with construction techniques….and
even provide lunch on the Sunday! July 18, 19 and 20.

Pant Fitting

I expect this one to fill up fast. We’ll use a commercial
pattern and make sure that you leave the weekend with a
pair of pants that you love! Sign up early and plan to
spend a weekend getting a start on your fall wardrobe.
Sept 19, 20, 21.

Happy Sewing!
Cindy
